Gentle Ambience

The most common winds are the “bura” and “jugo”, and the “maestral” which is refreshing in the summer heat. The Dubrovnik Coast is a region of lavish and fragrant vegetation.
Except for natural Mediterranean species,
there are cultivated gardens in front of the summer houses of the old Dubrovnik aristocrats, which
were favoured places to spend the summer on the Coast, full of subtropical and continental fl ora.
The oranges, lemons, palms and agaves, as well as Aleppo pines, local pines or pinje, holm-oak
woods, and various wild shrubbery (strawberry-tree, heather, Spanish broom), endow the area with a
special charm.
The sea around the Dubrovnik Coast is rich in both fl ora and fauna. There are red, brown and green algae among which are many species of fi sh: black-tailed sea bream, grey mullet, comber and gilthead.
The rocky seabed is the home of sea bass, dentex, grouper and other attractive fi sh, as well as octopus, shellfi sh, oysters, and mussels. Several kinds of lobster inhabit our part of the Adriatic Sea. |
